Bridgewater Place
Bridgewater Place, nicknamed The Dalek, is an office and residential development in Leeds, United Kingdom. It is the tallest building in Leeds and the tallest building in Yorkshire, and has held this record since being topped out in September 2005. It is visible at up to 25 miles from certain areas.
The development has been designed by Aedas Architects with the developer being Landmark Development Projects and St James Securities with Bovis Lend Lease being the contractor. The developer of the residential element of Bridgewater Place is KW Linfoot.
It was first announced in 2000 and, following several redesigns and delays with the construction process, construction of the building began in 2004 and was completed in 2007. It became the tallest building in Leeds, by a significant margin, and Yorkshire (although this does not take into account structures such as Emley Moor). Bridgewater Place has a height of 110 metres or 360 feet to roof level. Originally the tower was to have had a spire which would have extended the height of the building to 137 metres or 449 feet, however this was never built for unknown reasons.
Bridgewater Place has 32 storeys, of which two are used for car parking, ten for offices and twenty for residential purposes. There will be 40,000 square metres / 430,560 square feet of floor space in the building and there will be 200 flats and 400 car parking spaces. Office tenants will include Eversheds and Ernst & Young.
The atrium of Bridgewater Place hosts the 17.5 metre column sculpture called ‘Hello Friends’ by artists Bryan Davies and Laura Davies, which is tallest sculpture in Yorkshire. Created as a reinterpretation of Constantin Brancusi’s Endless Coumn from Târgu Jiu, Romania 50 years after the artist death, it houses illuminated photographs showing a science fiction narrative.
The major part of the building’s construction was completed by late December 2006, judging by the fact that the tower crane was being removed on 19 and 20 December. The completion of the entire building was commemorated on Thursday 26 April 2007. A special episode of Look North, the BBC’s local regional news programme was produced to commemorate the opening of the tower. The tower is illuminated at night with bright coloured lighting effects, colours used so far include blue and purple.

Hi. One Saturday evening at the beginning of December, I was walking into the city centre passed the Bridgewater Place building. Suddenly a large gust of wind blew one of the glass panes on the walkout completely out. This shattered glass everywhere - luckly i wasnt too close to it at the time. I presume that the security at the building would spot this when they were doing checks of the building etc.
I went passed this area again last week and found that the pane is still broken and that the shattered glass is still there.
Can you please look into this asap and arrange for the glass to be picked up before anyone gets hurt.
thanks

I bought in this fantastic building, but i still feel it never quite lived up to its hype ………. shame that leeds got a bit overdeveloped .
The lights on the side at night look great, great touch, but i wonder whether or not bulbs will be changed ,or will it end up looking like the roof of Meadowhall ?

To call it a skyscraper is a bit of a push. Its a tall building really, and quite an interesting / different shape and style.

Be vary wary when parking at this place.
i was there for a maximum of 7 minutes whilst helping a friend carry a new tv into his flat.
On return i was greeted by a sneering fool, placing a “fixed penalty” on my windscreen.
The company is CPS and are a bunch of cowboys, using threatening wording to try and extort £75 to be paid within 10 days, and £3 for every day there after. You can appeal, but only if you enclose the £75 payment. Any appeals without the £75 payment will not be considered. Yes, you guessed it right,….a con!!!
I’ve spoken to the police, and have read on “private parking” law, and these fools have no legal binding to any ticket issued. The law only applies to tickets issued by the police and the local authority.
If anyone else should get caught out by these pirates, then ignore them. simply ignore them. They then have to pay to obtain your details from the DVLA, then they send you a couple of “threatening” letters, mentioning legal proceedings. But trust me, no court or magistrate in the land would allow a bunch of pirates to extort money in this way.
I have also written to Leeds City Council with regards to this company, and also Bridgewater themselves.
I will post the outcome as soon as i get a reply.

I come to drop my partner for work at HBOS and that is the only place to drop/pickup. Due to work my partner was late and I quickly jumped to get cash and food from TESCO. this costed forturne when I saw £75 ticket……vhoooo vhooo….dam every one waits there for long.
I checked CPS guys and they are nuts trying to make some money. AVOID talking/discussing further. Complain to City Council. I have not paid them, as they are not legal. You too avoid.
Protestant….what was the outcome with you
